A number of new members were welcomed. The Deputy Chancellor, Mary Mahoney, was elected unopposed following a call for nominations prior to the meeting. Votes were taken on the membership of the various committees of Senate. I was re-elected (not entirely with my agreement) to the Student Appeals Committee.
The V-C gave his report on recent highlights in the areas of Learning, Discovery and Engagement. The draft Annual Report and Financial Statements of the University were approved.
Regular reports, such as Use of the University Seal, Award of Prizes, Finance Committee, Audit Committee, Buildings & Grounds Committee, Academic Board, Honorary Degrees Committee were noted and discussed where members wished.
Being the first meeting of the year, business was limited.
Immediately prior to the meeting, I and a number of Senators attended a ceremony to recognise staff nominated for the Chancellor's Award for Individual Excellence and the UQ Leadership Award. Most of the nominees were professional staff, as were the winners of each award. More here.
